A fantastic way to bring 2019 to a close…February 5th, 2020
Another successful Alumni event was held at Salters’ Hall on 27th November 2019 bringing the year to a close with a bang. We were delighted to welcome 14 alumni and 7 members from the Salters’ Institute and Salters’ Company at the event where we had two very inspiring presentations from previous Graduate Awardwinners. Caroline Winn, a Chemistry Graduate Awardwinner in 1997, is now Head of Risk Assessment EAME for Syngenta based at Jealott’s Hill. She talked us through her interesting career journey from her degree to post-doctoral studies then into her industrial career initially in pharmaceuticals (at GSK and AstraZeneca) and now in agrochemicals with Syngenta. It was a fascinating talk and prompted lots of questions. This was followed by another equally remarkable career journey, that of Helen Forrest, a Chemistry Graduate Awardwinner in 1995. Helen’s journey took her from a Graduate Training Programme in a printed circuit board manufacturer, to training in “Lean” tools and then into the aluminium industry. She is now a Manufacturing Consultant & Marketing Manager at Innoval Techology, a company who provide Consultancy, Technical Support & Training to the global aluminium industry. Again, we had many follow up questions for Helen before we split into some stimulating round table discussions. There then followed some time to gather views from the audience on the possible future direction of Alumni Programme, to feed into a forthcoming meeting on that subject. The evening finished with supper and a chance to mix and chat with fellow alumni.
